Medieval Liverpool

King John of England

King John of England [3]

Liverpool was created in 1207 by King John, who issued an invitation to settlers to come settle the new port on August 28, 1207.[1] Even with the King’s invitation to settle the new port, Liverpool remained a small city of seven streets. As can be seen in the original street plan of Liverpool below, the city contained a few small structures that were surrounded by large expanses of undeveloped, agricultural land.[2]
